It can be very frustrating when you are past the 40-week mark and your baby does not seem to be willing to come out.
Sure, due dates are just estimates but you won’t be able to help the anxiety that comes with being past your due date. However, you wouldn’t want to be medically induced. The good news is that there are natural ways of going about this.
A word of warning though is that you should speak to your doctor before any attempt to induce labour to avoid complications that may lead to a C-section.

1. Acupressure
This is the less known sibling of acupuncture. Instead of using thin needles on pressure points as in acupuncture, you use pressure in acupressure. This means thorough massage to relieve pain, stress, and anxiety. When used to induce labour, acupressure increases blood flow to the uterus and stimulates contractions.
2. Exercise
This is the oldest trick in the book. Long walks and even some yoga have been found to be great ways of getting your cervix ready for the task ahead and making it easier.
3. Nipple stimulation
Stimulating your nipples can bring about labour due to the release of oxytocin, the hormone that makes your uterus contract.
4. Sex
Sex can induce labour because it brings about the release of oxytocin, just like we discussed under nipple stimulation. You may have sex when you are at full term but definitely not after your water has broken.
Remember to talk to a doctor before doing anything to induce labour and you should know that experts generally recommend waiting for labour to kick in on its own.
