Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid has become the first African artist to hit eight million monthly streams on Spotify. The AFROPOP star beat Congolese artiste, Maitre Gims who previously held the record with 7 million monthly streams.

For those who may not know, Spotify is an online, music streaming platform that pays royalties based on the number of artists streams as a proportion of total songs streamed. Streaming records on the platform as of now reveals Wizkid’s popularity on the platform. This win follows Wiz’s recent collaboration with DJ Spinall and Tiwa Savage on “Dis Love.”
Starboy Wizkid is also the first African artist to have walked the runway at a Dolce and Gabbana fashion show while his sensational song, “Soco” played at the background. In 2018, Wiz became the first African artiste to sell out Skyway Theatre, a feat that has only been achieved by only one other music star in Minnesota (Beyonce).
The “Sweet Love” crooner who started recording music at age 11, recently made Billboard entry for his collaboration with Beyonce on her “Lion King”-inspired album. Congratulatory messages have followed him nonstop. Big ups to Wiz.
