Even if your kids seems like they’re being dramatic, don’t dismiss their feelings. It’s up to you to teach them to be emotionally strong. And if you do coach them to manage their emotions, it’ll pay off — big time.

According to researchers, the more mentally and socially competent kids are in kindergarten, the more likely they are to go to college and be employed full-time by age 25.

But those with the lowest social and emotional competency scores? They have the highest risk of dropping out of school and substance abuse issues.

So you may want to reconsider next time you tell them “Don’t be scared, everything will be OK.”
